Astrology is a method that is based on real planetary and stellar constellations, records them in graphs with astrological symbols and then interprets them. Usually the astrologer creates the chart drawing, also known as a radix, on the moment of birth of a person. He then speaks of a birth chart. In addition, a part of astrology or astrological science also deals with politics, economics, weather, natural disasters, i.e. with collective and global issues. This form, which is detached from the individual, is called oral anastrology. Whether oral or individual astrology, the focus is always on the interpretation of horoscopes. A horoscope is always created at some relevant point in time, and then the great tension begins, accompanied by a slight gold-digger mood: What can be taken from this horoscope, what previously unknown insights can be snatched away? Well, maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but astrology owes its popularity to the fact that there is a real possibility of gaining unexpected insights about the person or thing in question.
Astrology and horoscopes are completely unlimited in their thematic applications. From professional and partner horoscopes, astromedicine and finance to karma horoscopes and stock market astrology, astrology covers simply everything. The only thing that matters is that there is a meaningful beginning, whose exact time and place you know. Then, as a prospective astrologer, you can draw the horoscope on it and interpret it. In many cases, the moment of birth of the person concerned, i.e. the birth chart, is sufficient. A karma horoscope, for example, is nothing more than a normal birth chart, which focuses on the interpretation of certain karma factors in it. Of course, astrology lives not only from its thematic universality, but also from its methodology, especially its method of interpretation.
As astrology or astrologers' horoscopes interpret, an article can only suggest that the rules behind them are too complex. The horoscope chart to be interpreted mainly contains twelve signs of the zodiac, which you also know as zodiac signs, as well as twelve houses and various planets, which are connected by so-called aspects. These elementary components are common to every birth chart, but in every person they are mixed and connected in completely different ways. As complex and differentiated as a human being is, astrology must also be so if it is to depict him or her accurately. Every planet, aspect, house, zodiac sign means something and every connection means something again. The qualified astrologer then takes his findings from all this hodgepodge.
Now that you have a rough picture of the ancient astrology, the question arises as to its role in the media-driven present. What role and significance can such an astrological art take on in our society today? On the one hand, it may please the astrology enthusiast that it is so widely spread. As already mentioned in the beginning, one encounters it at every turn. It is part of everyday life, everybody knows it - or rather, believes to know it - and the times of persecution or ostracism of astrologers are as much history as esoteric secrecy. Everyone can form his or her own judgement, gather information, read books, participate in forum discussions, learn astrology, go to an astrologer for astrological advice or found his or her own private association. This free and varied access to astrology is a blessing. But every side has its downside and this is "commercial loss of quality".
The form of astrology that is so widely used usually has little to do with the actual or constructive nature of astrology. What we encounter everywhere is often a very superficial and commercial application of the ancient discipline of esotericism, and seldom pays tribute to it. The picture drawn by this usually does astrology an injustice. The interested party has to search longer if he really needs good information, well-founded articles or capable astrologers. This is the course of history, a destiny which the horoscope or astrology shares with many other things in life. The question everyone has to ask himself is what exactly he wants and needs and how to recognise what he is looking for. Serious profession, a little entertainment, life help, a research tool, what is it supposed to be? Astrology can be all these things in our living and diverse present, depending on what is made of it. It has much to give, especially self-knowledge, and in this respect it is a timeless beacon.
